Brenda, the tunnel-boring machine, will begin boring in Capitol Hill in the coming weeks. Brenda will bore the new “University Link” tube from Capitol Hill to Westlake Station as part of the link light rail extension. The project is expected to take 18 months. Brenda is about 30 ft long and the deepest digging past Broadway in Capitol Hill will be at 150 feet below street level. The long and costly ($2 billion!!!) project will provide a new and convenient way for people to travel, cutting commute times and keeping bus crowding at bay.
